Meta Tag Info Needed For Sharing To Social Networks

Just putting this here for my own reference.

Adding this to the blog template after the opening head tag should help the social networks pick up the right information when a blog post is being shared.

FAQ: I Can't Find My Blog On The Search Engines!!

Contrary to popular belief, search engines do not index new content on the web instantaneously. It takes time and effort on the part of the webmaster of any site to get their site indexed and then decent page rank on the search engines.

There are several things you can do to help lessen the time it takes to get indexed and decent search results (in no particular order).

1. Make sure your blog is indexable by turning on the listing options in your blog settings.

2. Submit your blog url to the various search engines. For Google, go to this site to get started- http://www.google.com/intl/en/submit_content.html

3. Read this article from Google Webmaster Central that explains how they deal with content, indexing and search results. http://www.google.com/support/websearch/bin/answer.py?answer=39334&topic=8996

5. Link to other blogs of similar content or interest.

6. Allow comments and backlinks on your blog and make comments on other blogs leaving your link.

7. Create and maintain interesting and accurate content on your blog to keep your readers entertained and returning.

8. DO NOT PARTAKE IN SPAMMY OR MALICIOUS ACTIVITY that would get your blog deleted and your account banned.

My Instructions for Getting Traffic

First you need to make sure you have comments allowed in your blog settings. Allowing comments and making comments on other blogs is the first step in getting your url out there and finding other bloggers that have similar interests to you.

Second, you need to list your blog with the big search engines...go to google and/or Yahoo and any other one you want to use and do a search for the terms "submit url". You will get directions from them on how to do that for their services and that is the first step to getting traffic. The search engines will not crawl your site for ages otherwise, and even with the submission it takes some time.

Then, you need to start putting links to other sites/blogs on your site and hope that they reciprocate because the more you are linked the better your traffic will become and the better your page ranking with the search engines will become. You can become a member of blogging communities (there are many out there) as well and that will help you get more links and traffic.

Lastly (just to reiterate), you should read and comment as much as you can on other blogs (don't spam them) because when you do, usually a link to your blog is automatically included and you are getting your name and url out there for others to check your blog out.
